Dare to Dream

Paul Robshaw a long time real estate entrepreneur said that“Dreams are reality without boundaries.” That statement is very insightful if you think about all the dreams of individuals that have actually become reality and have showed the world that the sky is the limit. Take the Wright Brothers for instants. They took an idea or dream that so many men had and they made it reality. In my Business class the other day we watched a really cool video that showed clips of men in the past trying out their flying machines and contraptions. Take a look at it yourself (Video above).

What is your dream? What will it take you to reach that dream? What is stopping you from making it a reality right now? My professor always tells us to be ‘Dream Makers’ and to “Get up, get out, and go do something.” We can’t achieve our dreams if we don’t go do something about it. The only person that is stopping you is YOU!

When Things Go Wrong

When things go wrong what do you do? Do you give up, do you wait for someone to help you out, do you move on to something new or do you get back up off the ground? I hope that all of you thought that getting up off the ground was the best choice because it is! Henry Ford said that "Failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently."

He is right and he proved to the world that he was right. I often feel that failure cannot be overcome, that I am at the end of my rope or that this is the last straw but so many individuals in the world prove me wrong. Dr. Deshpande in his interview on acton.org talks of when he failed and how he overcame it. He said that "when things go wrong, it's not the end of the world but it allows you to become more comfortable in environments that are harsher". It expands your comfort zone and i have really come to learn that there is no growth in a comfort zone. Dr. Deshpande came to America from India with $8 in his pocket and has over a life time created many great businesses. His trick was optimism!

A Change of Heart

I just watched the video interview of Tom Monaghan on the ActonHero website. This story is amazing. He was raised in an orphanage but chose to rise above his circumstances. He started the Domino's Pizza Delivery Chain which revolutionized pizza delivery as we know it. He also owned a baseball team and eventually be came a millionaire. The most momentous moment in his life that he talks about is when he read a book by C.S. Lewis called Mere Christianity that made him reevaluate his life.

His heart changed and he wanted to be a better person that gave to others. He had money and wanted to give it away to something that could do the most good. He decided to give to Higher Education so he started Ave Maria University. A friend said of him that He wants to go to heaven but he wants to bring as many people as he can with him. He said that he was so grateful that the Lord let him find his true purpose in life. He had finally found his calling!! I am just awe struck by the spirituality that he has. He in his peak of success found the desire to be humble and look beyond himself to make a difference in this world. I hope that I can raise to my calling that the Lord has given me.

Journal Entry #1

I watched a video today of an interview with Entrepreneur Bruce Thompson. He had a lot of insights to share about finding success and fulfillment in life. His main point was that "Business is not life, it's a part of life." He seems like a man that has been there and done that and has realized that family is the most important part of life but business is what helped him have success so that he could provide for his family and also enjoy life with them. I completely agree with him on this topic. The greatest joy in life comes from cultivating relationships with friends, family and even co-workers. It's not about the money, its about living life with joy. I have also realized that it takes a lot of work to make money but it also takes a lot of work to maintain meaningful relationships. The trick is finding balance with what is necessary and what is needed.

Learning to be an Entrepreneur

I am on my very last semester of university and will be graduating with a bachelors of science in Horticulture. As part of my education I have decided to learn to be an entrepreneur so that I can someday open up my very own business. As i learn new ideas and concepts I will post them here on my blog so that maybe someone else can benefit too.

I am back and alive...

It has been a while since I last updated my blog so I thought i had better let everyone out there know that I am alive and well. In the past three years I have served a mission for my church, finished up three more semeseters at University and only have one more left until graduation. Oh what a joyous day that will be! Right now I have been having fun with my three roommates. They are all beautiful women that inspire me everyday. All of them have wonderful dreams and worthy goals that they strive to reach every single day. They help me everyday figure out who I am and how to live life to the fullest.

Today is the 4th of July. It marks the start of a beautiful nation that was able to break away from the monarchy and start a democracy that allows for the freedon of every citizen. I love this country and this free land that I live in!
